Here is a little information package: IN YOUR FACE-A dramatised poetry session with Caroline Nderitu A schools and colleges outreach project by POETRY LAB.
LET'S HAVE FUN WITH WORDS A cultural experience!
SUB-THEMES: Determination. Conservation. Peace. Culture. Self-Esteem. Confidence.
Running for 45 to 120 minutes, IN YOUR FACE is an exciting and interactive talk/poetry show presented within an infusion of drama, music, sound effects and intricate traditional costuming, talk/poetry show that endeavours to wet an appetite for poetry while highlighting selected topical issues of the day. It teaches not only how to handle poetry but also how to use it to communicate messages like environmental conservation, cultural heritage, peace, and determination, within a blend of my finest works.
It is geared to be out rightly inspiring and entertaining yet subtly instructive and thus the title- IN YOUR FACE. I am also ready willing to share my tips on the casual (or strategic) appreciation of poetry, where technical expertise is warranted, based on my experience.
IN YOUR FACE is presented at five distinct levels, namely: - q Kindergarten q Lower primary q Upper primary q High school q College/university
In Kenya the show has already been to around twenty-five institutions so far (Kenyatta University, Swedish School, Makini school Banda School, Hekima Primary, Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi school, Kibutha Girls, Naru Moru Girls High School, Consolata School, Millennium Academy, Princeton Laureate, Jonathan Cloag, St. Andrews- Turi, etc.) and still going, with a target one thousand schools locally and abroad.
The show is an inimitable opportunity for creative interaction between presenter and audience. It is also a creative moment as we endeavour to create poems together as evidence that it may not be so hard after all. There is also a session when we gauge our general knowledge of poetry and poets. The results have been amazing with students/pupils coming up to express their gratitude in person and requesting for more such sessions in the future.
Many people view poetry as a difficult and even boring genre. One way of liberating them from this misconception is to allow them to experience the grandeur of performed poetry and thus- IN YOUR FACE.
Kindly allow me to make this presentation to your institution.
